High search volume, low monetization potential: These keywords have high search volume but low monetization potential, so they may not be worth targeting unless you can find a way to monetize them indirectly (e.g., business ideas).
Medium search volume, high monetization potential: These keywords may not generate a lot of traffic, but they have high monetization potential. They are worth targeting if you have a high-value product or service to offer (e.g., Peloton alternative).
High search volume, high monetization potential: These are the keywords that you should prioritize in your content creation and SEO strategy. They have high search volume and high monetization potential, so they can drive significant traffic and revenue to your website (e.g., best VPN).
How to Use the Keyword Monetization Matrix
To use the Keyword Monetization Matrix, start by brainstorming a list of keywords related to your niche. Then, use a keyword research tool like Ahrefs or SEMrush to analyze their search volume and monetization potential. Sort your list of keywords into the appropriate quadrant of the matrix based on their search volume and monetization potential.
Focus your content creation efforts on the keywords in quadrant four, as these are the ones with the highest potential for driving traffic and revenue to your site. However, don't ignore the keywords in quadrant three, as they can still be valuable for targeting a highly engaged and targeted audience.
How to Research Affiliate Keywords Using Ahrefs
The first step in researching affiliate keywords is to identify your niche. What topics does your website or blog cover? What products or services are you promoting as an affiliate? Once you have identified your niche, you can start to brainstorm potential keywords and phrases that your audience might use to search for content related to your niche.
Once you have a list of potential keywords, it's time to use Ahrefs' Keyword Explorer to analyze their search volumes, difficulty scores, and potential traffic. Simply enter your keywords into the Keyword Explorer and you'll be presented with a wealth of data about each keyword, including its search volume, difficulty score, and click-through rate.
Another great way to research affiliate keywords using Ahrefs is to analyze your competitors. Enter the URLs of your competitors' websites into Ahrefs' Site Explorer and you'll be presented with a wealth of data about their backlinks, traffic, and keywords. You can use this data to identify the keywords and phrases that your competitors are targeting, and use that information to inform your own keyword research.
When researching affiliate keywords, it's important to focus on long-tail keywords. These are longer, more specific phrases that are less competitive than broad keywords. For example, instead of targeting the broad keyword "shoes," you might target the long-tail keyword "comfortable running shoes for women." How to Research Affiliate Keywords Using SEMrush

Enter a keyword related to your affiliate niche into the search bar, and hit "Search."
Review the list of suggested keywords that appear. These are variations of your original keyword that people commonly search for. Look for keywords that have a high search volume and low competition, as these are the ones that will be most valuable for your affiliate content.
You can use the filters to narrow down the list of keywords to those that fit your specific criteria. For example, you can filter by keyword difficulty (KD), search volume, and other factors.
Immediately I can see that "klaviyo email marketing" could be something I build an affiliate marketing website around. It has 480 monthly searches with a KD of 14. 🔥

Once you've identified a list of potential affiliate keywords, you can use SEMrush's other features to further research them. For example, you can check the SERP (Search Engine Results Page) for each keyword to see what content is currently ranking, and use that information to create your own optimized content.
You can also use SEMrush to track the performance of your content and monitor your search engine rankings for your chosen keywords.
How to Research Affiliate Keywords Using Ubersuggest
Go to the Ubersuggest website (neilpatel.com/ubersuggest) and enter the main keyword you want to target in the search box.
Once you have entered the keyword, select the country you want to target and click on the "Search" button.
You will now see the overview page of Ubersuggest, which will show you the search volume, SEO difficulty, paid difficulty, and CPC for the keyword you entered.
Scroll down to the "Keyword Ideas" section, which will show you a list of related keywords, along with their search volume, CPC, and competition.
Look for keywords that have high search volume and low competition. These are the keywords that will be easier to rank for and will bring you more traffic.
Click on any of the keywords to see more detailed information, such as the top-ranking pages, the backlinks of those pages, and more.
You can also use the "Content Ideas" section to see what kind of content is ranking for your target keyword. This can give you ideas on what type of content you should create for your affiliate site.
Repeat the process for other related keywords to find even more opportunities.
